Anthracosis is a pneumoconiosis (lung disease caused by the inhalation of dust). Other diseases filed under pneumoconiosis are silicosis, asbestosis, etc., but these are not common in animals.
Animals that live in highly polluted areas, and especially those who live with SMOKERS are very prone to developing anthracosis.
Anthracosis leads to pulmonary fibrosis, an irreversible lesion that causes the loss of elasticity in lungs and, in the end, respiratory failure.
